We meet on the first Monday of the month, from 10 am – 12 pm in the Dolphin room.

On 5 October we will discuss a wonderful book by local author Maria Bianco “Three Trunks and a Cardboard Case”. Maria is a member Cairns U3A and has been one of our guest speakers previously. She emigrated from Sicily in 1951 as a three year old, with her mother and brother to join her father in Australia. They endured hardship and isolation in the Far North sugar cane fields, but this creative non-fiction memoir depicts a vanished way of life in an era now prized for its tranquillity and tropical beauty. For those of us raised here, so many of Maria’s memories bring back similar incidents in our childhoods, though few of us had as many obstacles to overcome.
