Non-Fiction & Fiction Libraries

The non-fiction collection is now organised on a simplified Dewey Decimal system.  If you’re unfamiliar with this, please note headings below.

At present there are about a dozen books in the 000 section.  These include almanacs, dictionaries (including two of quotations) and a thesaurus.  You may be interested in any of the following titles:

  • When was that? Chronology of Australia”. This spans the first two hundred years of European settlement on this continent.  It shows, for example, that the first marriages were solemnised in Australia on 10 February, 1788 (and names the couples).  There is also an index at the back of the book, so you can find information by key words.
  • “The Ultimate Encyclopaedia of Fantasy”, with chapters on Fantasy Cinema, Television Fantasy, Fantasy Games, Who’s Who of Fantasy and more.
  • “Imponderables: answers to the most perplexing and amusing mysteries of everyday life”

There are now two Borrowing Books in which you can record which books you have borrowed:  One for the non-fiction collection in the Library Room, and one for the Scott Room collection, which covers topics related to U3A classes.  The borrowing period will be for one month, but arrangements can be made for an extension if a longer loan period is desired.
