Thursdays 10.00 am – 12.00 pm, Dolphin Room.

We are not a regular class since we do not teach French but assume that those who come along already have some knowledge of the language. Nor do we expect our participants to be fluent, merely to have an interest in expanding their understanding – lapses into ‘Franglaise’ are readily forgiven.
We have a low-impact structure in that we begin with half an hour of sentence translation highlighting some key-notes of grammar. Then each member of the class discusses their ‘mot du jour’ – some word or phrase that they personally find interesting. This usually takes us up to tea break and after that we each give a little commentary or story regarding a film we have seen, a place we have visited or an activity we have participated in – or anything really!
Comments and questions welcomed.
Occasionally we get to watch a short video or listen to a brief discourse on French culture, places or customs; always a treat and a challenge to our comprehension of the spoken word.
Wednesdays, 2.00 – 3.00pm, Scott room.
We re-started on 17 June 2020. Numbers will be strictly limited. Please contact the tutor or convener to book.
