Best Life in Later Life (A multi-format five-presentation series by Cairns U3A Douglas Shire Branch)

21 June: Safety and Security for Seniors – As we become older potential scammers, con-artists, thieves, stalkers, and those who commit violent crimes can see us as easy targets. An interview/conversation between Cyber Security Educator Catherine Rosenbrauer, Specialist Psychotherapist and Researcher Claudia Contessini and Home Security Expert Brian Mitchell will help you avoid becoming a victim. You’ll hear interesting stories, learn fascinating things about the criminal mind and even your mind, and come away with lots of information about how to feel more secure as you get older.

26 July: Friendship in Later Life – Solid, deeply-connected friendships not only help you to be happier, but research shows those blessed with these relationships live healthier, longer lives. Join us to discuss what makes a good friendship, ideas for ways to make new friends and how to find the kinds of people you want to be around – at U3A and other places. If you have something to say about friendship, have a lovely friendship story, if you’re good at friendship and would like to share your wisdom, let us know and we’ll be in touch (meetgreet.u3adouglas@gmail.com). We’ll facilitate a discussion and we hope you’ll either join in, or come along and listen, learn and enjoy!

16 August: Conversation Day – Different tables, different topics. Get to know community members with similar interests. We’ll make it easy for you with suggested questions and a designated “facilitator” to gently keep the conversation moving if necessary. Come along for an afternoon of fun, and make some new connections!

18 October: Health Optimisation for Older People – We’ll share science-based cutting edge ideas on how to be happier and healthier at our stage of life from a range of experts. More info later in the year. Save the date!

16 November: Best Life in Later Life – An invitation to look at older age in a very different way. We’re planning to interview some amazing researchers via Zoom. It will be fascinating. More information later.
